What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file that a website asks your browser to keep. Local storage works in a similar way. Some of these are needed for the site to function at all; the rest are optional and only run if you allow them.

How consent works here

The first time you open the site you see a banner with two equally prominent buttons, Accept and Reject, plus a Settings link where you can choose category by category. Nothing optional is stored until you decide, and doing nothing counts as a refusal. Your decision is remembered for 180 days in your browser under the key sif_consent_v1, after which you are asked again. You can change or withdraw it whenever you like through the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.

Measurement without cookies

Before you consent, Google Analytics runs in Google Consent Mode with all storage denied. In that state it writes no cookies, creates no identifier and cannot recognise you on a later visit; it only sends an anonymous, aggregated signal that a page was opened. This is how I can see roughly how many people read which pages without touching your device. If you accept, the cookies below are added and the measurement becomes more precise.

Strictly necessary - always active

cookie_photobyiryna - keeps your session on the site working. Session or up to 1 year. Set by Pixpa, the hosting platform.

XSRF-TOKEN - protects the enquiry form against cross-site request forgery. Session. Set by Pixpa.

store_enabled - remembers technical settings of the site. Session. Set by Pixpa.

NRBA_SESSION - performance monitoring used by the hosting platform. Session.

gt_autoswitch and the related entries of the language switcher - remember whether you are reading the English, Spanish or Ukrainian version. Up to 1 year. Set by GTranslate.

sif_consent_v1 - local storage entry that keeps your own cookie choice so you are not asked again on every page. 180 days.

Analytics - optional, only after you accept

_ga - tells one browser apart from another. 2 years. Google Analytics 4.

_ga_G36GQNZFW0 - keeps the session state for this particular Analytics property. 2 years. Google Analytics 4.

These are used only to count visits, to see which pages are actually read and to understand how people find the site. IP addresses are anonymised, advertising features and data sharing for advertising are switched off, and nothing here is used to build a profile about you.

Third parties

Google Ireland Limited processes the analytics data and may transfer it outside the European Economic Area under standard contractual clauses. Pixpa provides the hosting and the strictly necessary cookies. GTranslate provides the Spanish and Ukrainian versions of the pages. Each of them has its own privacy policy describing what it does with the data.

How to change your mind

Open the Cookie settings link in the footer and the banner comes back. Choosing Reject deletes the analytics cookies that were already stored. You can also delete or block cookies directly in your browser settings, in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge alike, though the strictly necessary ones are needed for the enquiry form to work.
