Santa Cruz is the one place on the island where the background is architecture rather than landscape. Hard afternoon shadow between buildings is the material here: it gives shape and edge that an open beach cannot.
Because we are working with shade and reflected light rather than the sun itself, the city is forgiving about timing. Mid afternoon is often better than sunset, and rain does not cancel the session.
